LeRoy I. Harrod was born on July 24,
1924 in Steelton, Pennsylvania to James LeRoy Irvin
and Viola C. Harrod. He moved
to Washington, D.C. in 1931 and is a product of the D.C. Public
School System.
LeRoy joined the United States Army in June 1944 and was honorably discharged in June 1946. During his service, he was deployed to the Middle East and received several citations and decorations. Upon discharge, he attended West Virginia State College. LeRoy subsequently graduated from the Eckels College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He then embarked upon a Federal Government career spanning more than 25 years. LeRoy was employed in a civilian capacity at U.S.M.C. Headquarters. He was also a Funeral Director in Washington, D.C. LeRoy married his beloved late wife, Gloria, in March 1951.
He is a past President of the D.C. Chapter of the Independent Funeral Directors and Morticians Association. LeRoy 's other affiliations include: The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity; the NAACP; Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Shephard Park Civic Association.
LeRoy was a loving husband, a dearly devoted father and an ever doting grandfather. He was caring and deeply concerned with the welfare and well being of his family and all those he knew.
LeRoy leaves to mourn his passing: two devoted daughters, Lynda and Lisa; five grandchildren, Prentice, Aaron, Lauren, Ahmik and Alexander; loving sister and brother, Evelyn and Dennette; sister-in-law, Phyllis; son-in-law, Alfonso; mother-in-law Octavia; brother-in-law, Lloyd Herbert, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
