Red Tails - The Tuskegee Airmen
The Tuskegee Airmen were black fighter pilots during World
War II who flew escort missions with American bombers during the
Italian Campaign. They were called "Red Tailed Black Angels" by the
bomber crews, because they never lost a single plane to
German fighters while they were on escort duty. A lot of my scale
models are based on planes that they flew.
Col. William J. Smith, USAFR, President of the Los Angeles
Chapter, has set up Web sites for the Tuskegee Airmen
International and for the LA Chapter. Since the sites recently
moved to AOL, I decided to use this page as a "filter" in case
they move again. :-)
Col. Dick Williams of the Confederate Air Force, Southern Minnesota Wing,
has some pages on their site devoted to their Red Tail
Restoration Project. Lena Horne is their
Honorary National Chairperson.
