Dennette's WW-II Aircraft:
Lockheed P-38 Lightning
P-38H/J

Squadron cover art This is a plane that I have in many scales, and plan to do in many variations. Figures on this page are taken from the Squadron/Signal publication whose cover appears to the right. (Click for larger version.)

1:700, 1:144, 1:72, 1:48

It's one of the planes I can fly with either SWOTL or AOTP.

versions Night Fighter One of the neat things about the Monogram 1:48 scale kit is that it lets you make either a plain, vanilla P-38J fighter/bomber, a "Droop Snoot" (Pathfinder) bomber, or a P-38M "Night Fighter".

Droop Snoot [upper] In the spring of 1944, the "Droop-snoot" first made its appearance. This ship, a converted P-38J had a complete bombardier's station built into the nose. This plane would act as the lead ship on level bombing missions. [80th Fighter Squadron Assoc.]

[lower] In March 1944 the 20th Fighter Group adopted group markings with the addition of yellow spinners and forward engine nacelles. These markings were also added to the Droop-snoot flown by the outfit. [R. Englehart]
