[Jean's Page]] Letter to Jean (18-Dec-93)

This is the second letter to my 2nd ex-wife after a five year hiatus. In the letter three months earlier, I asked her to send me the slides and negatives from our honeymoon in Mexico and vacation in Europe so that I could xfer them to compact disk. She found most of them and sent them to me. This is the letter from when I returned them to her.

Day Books: December 18, 1993 (Freeman Lake)

Dear Jean,

Well, the Photo CD arrived today, so I am returning the originals and a package of slide pages for you to use as you see fit (they make lousy door-stops).

I've printed the "album" of thumbnail images that are kept in the hard disk by the photo data base manager. FYI, I also included the thumbnails from my other two Photo CDs.

[Denny & Jean on Honeymoon Cancun, Mexico - Jan'83] [Jean by cenote at Chitchen Itza, Mexico - Jan'83]

I'm also including an IBM High Density (1.44Mb) floppy disk; you should be able to find a program on CI$ that will allow your Mac to read it. From whatever the File Manager looks like on your Desktop when you Open this floppy, you should find some 256 color GIF files. Whatever GIF view you have should be able to convert these to monochrome images. 24-bit (16.8 million colors) images at 512.768 resolution would overflow a single floppy.

Thanks for letting me borrow these, and I hope that the shots from our two weeks in the U.K. show up. I distinctly remember leaving my 85mm lens in the gift shop at the castle in Edinburgh, because I had to keep shoving coins into the pay telephone in Aberdeen to give them my address to return it to me in the U.S.

The reason I want those pictures so much is because there should be one of me at Greenwich straddling the Prime Meridian in from of the transit telescope. I'll never forget how you came inside and told me that there was this "funny, single train track" out in the courtyard, and I squealed "You found it! That's what we came here to see!!", and I had you take a picture of me standing with one foot in each hemisphere. That's the picture I want for the chapter of my autobiography about the trip.

I have highlighted the ones from Yucatan Honeymoon: January, 1983 that I will probably use in the CD version. The rest will get viewed using the "slide show" dialog box from the Image Manager's menu ... probably a 5 second intervals, which will still take six and a half minutes to view.

Thanks again for letting me borrow them. Here are some snapshots of the FurFace in her latest Frequent Warm Place - the clothes dryer. Since she discovered it (actually, I found her there in the middle of the night once, but I think she'd been doing it for a while), I make towels the last load and just leave the door open for her.

Have a better one!
