FurFace's Award-Winning
HomePage
Lurker at Windowsills - Feb'94.
This is FurFace, my companion animal since I found
her as an abandoned kitten in a park in Michigan in 1983. (It
was an annual Mensa local group
picnic.) She's wearing her C.L.A.W. Treasurer's crown.
1997-11-14: FurFace failed in her bid for re-election as Treasurer of C.L.A.W. (read her campaign statement), but Queen Midnight has appointed her Sargent at Arms, so she'll still have a voice in the organization.
Now we live in a cottage on a lake … in the fall and spring, there are migrating geese to watch. There's a bay window in the kitchen, which is where I put her bed. This shot shows the frozen, snow-covered lake in winter. Naturally, there's a bird feeder close by for her amusement.
2002-05-25: A year ago last Sunday, we moved from the lake in New England to a co-op in a building in Washington, DC.
At the House of Pain - Feb'94.
Last February, a few months before my stroke, she developed an obstructed
colon. Several visits to the House of Pain, an enema, a
barium G/I x-ray series, a dozen stiches, and $750 later, she
was good as new -- the fears of a tumor were vanquished when the
vet removed a mass of feces and hair. Click to read my diary
entries about the Hairball From
Hell.
On top of the color scanner -
Jul'95. OK, I'm not as obsessive about my cat as
some people are (and I hold no contempt for cat pages written in
the first person), but she has been with me for over 12
years, which is longer than both of my marriages combined!

2002-04-04: Added some new pictures of Her Furry Majesty ... she's 19 years old now!
2002-05-25: We've just returned from the House of Pain ... the little furry girl had severe dental disease so they removed four of her teeth! I noticed last weekend that she was not eating (although constantly begging for food), and her breath smelled funny .. a quick visit confirmed the worst, so after a few days of antibiotics and dilluted baby food administered by syringe, it was back for a long sleep and the extractions. I made them keep her overnight, and we have just returned ... she's napping now, but I hope to hear her begging for kibble Real Soon Now.
2002-08-01: At 13:20 today, FurFace crossed the Rainbow Bridge. There were complications after the extractions in May, and one site never healed. After three weeks of antibiotics, pain killers, and appetite stimulants, she was in so much discomfort that it was time to let her go. She was losing weight (she was down to less than six pounds!) and there was a large lump in her abdomen ... Dr. Jones thought that it might have been cancer, which would explain why her mouth wasn't healing. I took her in this morning for a biopsy, and after examining the bone loss in her jaw, we decided it was best just to not awaken her ... heroic measures would have just left her in pain for her last few months ... she wasn't going to see another birthday.
She was a Good Companion for 19 years, but it was painful to watch her distress when she tried to eat. Here are the last pictures that I took of her this morning.
2002-09-24: Seven weeks to the day after I lost FurFace, Chiana came into my life ... I've started laughing more and crying less.
