Getting Ready for Mac's Funeral
Mac passed away a few days ago, and I'll be taking the train to his funeral in Santa Fe ... three days and two nights ... I'm taking my sleeping bag and the backpack that I carried through the Sangre de Christo mountains as a Boy Scout in the early 1960s. (Found some slides that I'll have digitized Real Soon Now.)
I also found the snapshots from the 1974 reunion in NYC, when Howard was still little, before his brother Michael was born ... Pop surprised me with a visit while I was there, because he had come to town for Duke Ellington's funeral.
One of the people I called from TheOldGang was Chic.
I told her that I was thinking about starting to shave my head again, and she
wanted to see a picture of me before I get my haircut ...
here's a picture of me
taken last night with my
Russian air pistol, wearing my
NRA Life Member patch and the
International Air Pistol with the EXPERT rocker.
Interesting ... I just noticed that I'm coming up on the tenth anniversary of my being declared Geek of the Week at the quarterly IGES meeting in Crystal City, where my room overlooked The Pentagon. I was accorded this honor on account of I drove 500 miles in my van with a desktop PC, scanner, and color ink-jet printer, which I set up in my hotel room for the week of the conference. (Mind you, this was 10 years ago :-)
Now I'm about to take my first cross-country train trip in a Very Long Time, and I'm thinking back on the trip I took 10 years ago, and how I documented it in the era before "blog" entered our vocabulary ... and even though I still have the same laptop PC (the HP Omnibook), I'm taking Orion because it has a DVD player that I can watch with head-phones.
Here's the list of DVD's I'm taking with me ...
