Dennette's Animated GIF Files

Animated GIFs files are fun, but they're even better when you use ray-traced computer graphics. To make these, I used Animate by Gerald J. Williams to create batch files that invoke DKB-Trace (a rather out-of-date tool) to create 24-bit color TGA images, and then I use GIF Constuction Set to make the animated GIFS. <whew!>

torustorus This was my first attempt at an animation ... the example provided with the package. (10 frames) Simple rotation about a single axis.

I modified a DBK scene of a chessboard so that the pieces are arranged to represent a point in a particular game. Someday, I'll animate the motion of the pieces on the board during the fly-by. Here are some experiments to date.

chessmovchess movie Using red, green, and blue axis to orient the scene. (10 frames) The first thing you need to know is where things are, so the X axis is RED, the Y axis is GREEN, and the Z axis is BLUE. Thus we see that this "world" is defined in the X/Z plane, and "height" is measured in the positive Y direction.

shannon_01shannon_01 A similar "fly-by" without the reference axis. (10 frames)

shannon_02shannon_02 My first "orbit" around [0,0,0] (12 frames) I used the simple trick of three segments per quadrent of the circle, and the coefficients 0.5 and 0.8666 for the sin and cosin. OTOH, I had to go back to my freshman trig text to get the math right.

2005-08-15: Decided to try out the DKB software again, with a chess position that I found in a park one day.
