The Tells: Why I Am A Social Darwinist

I had an interesting conversation with someone the other day, Friday the Thirteenth, to be exact. We were discussing human evolution and the gene pool of homo sapiens, when he asked me what I thought about "race mixing".

"Well," I said, "the biodiversity that we see in h. sap. is due to geography … hominids who moved north lost the melanin in their epidermis, uh, their skin got lighter. I think that in the next few centuries there will still be very large geographically defined "enclaves" of "racial purity", if you insist on classing h. sap. into sub-species based on skin, hair, and eyes. But then, I've never considered myself as being a member of homo sapiens."

He looked puzzled. "Then what are you?" he asked.

"I'm a genetic freak that represents homo superior … I have an IQ higher than 98% of the population, and I feel that it sets me apart from the rest of mankind. I represent the next evolutionary step, just as Cro-Magnon Man represents the previous evolutionary step."

And I also believe that this is part of Allah's Grand Scheme for the Universe.

Let us first define some mathematical concepts. A standard deviation is a value that will generally encompass 68% of a population. We have developed IQ tests based on the assumption that an "average" person (i.e., 68% of the population) will have an IQ between 70 and 130, with 100 being the average. That's what happened in the movie, Forest Gump, when they would not allow him to attend public school because his IQ was below 70.

Now, this means that 32% of the population is either above average or below average in IQ. Let's call the 16% at the high end "smart" and the 16% at the low end "dumb" … lets also assume that there are just as many "smart" as there are "dumb", i.e., that the curve is symetrical.

If you go to two standard deviations, you encompass 96% of the population. On an IQ test, this would represent scores of 50 and 150. Again, we'll assume that the populations at either end are equally represented. Let's call the high end "superior" and the bottom 2% "inferior".

In this case, the "inferior" are the ones so badly retarded that they cannot be toilet trained and must wear diapers and be fed and bathed even into their middle ages, when they die prematurely. The "superior" ones, with an IQ higher than 98% of the population, qualify for membership in MENSA, the international high IQ society. I have been a Life Member of MENSA for nearly a decade now, but only because I never bothered to pony-up for the annual dues before then.

If you go to three standard deviations, you hit 99.9% of the population … the high-end we'll call "genius" and the low-end we'll call "brain-dead at birth". 'Nuff said.

Having laid this groundwork, I can make the following statements, and I think that you must agree with the truth of them, even if you don't like them.

There are two kinds of people in the world … ones who are smart, and ones who are not. There are two kinds of people who are not smart … ones who are dumb, and ones who are not. The ones in between are just average. So, you could also say that there are three kinds of people in the world … average, above average, and below average.

This is just like Allah has commanded us … there are things which are "required" and things which are "forbidden", and everything else is "allowed". Once again, three kinds of things. Even among "allowed", there is "encouraged" and "discouraged" at the extremes, with "allowed" again in the middle.

So we see a reflection of Allah's design in both our behavior and our intelligence … the rule of "this and not-this" is used to determine "better, worse, or average" by the simple decision of a few "yes-no" questions.

Now, let's get back to that question about "race mixing". If you ask me if I think that a reintegration of the h. sap. gene pool is a Good Thing, then my answer is yes, but I have a much larger concern caused by "artificial selection" as practiced by Modern Man.

In the old days, without modern medicine, people dumb enough to play with fire, or too slow to run from predators, did not survive long enough to breed. Today, instead of alcoholics dying when they wreck their cars, we put them back together so that they can kill more people, and let them live long enough to breed more alcoholics. (Or child abusers, or whatever.)

This is what I mean by "artificial selection" … we are helping the inferior ones live long enough to have children of their own. Some People think it's a Good Thing, but I still think that the Eskimos and other nomadic societies have the correct idea … leave the injured and infirm to die on the ice.

The problem with this is that when you take it to the extreme, you get genocide in an attempt to eradicate "bad" genes from the pool. My brand of Social Darwinism is to observe without making a value judgment … "I'm here to explain it, not to defend it."

This is what I know:

So, even though I have a degree in computer science, and I have been a software engineer for over 20 years, my highest salary was $54,000 and I have been unemployed for the past few years. OTOH, I have a white friend who is five years younger, has no college degree, and five years less experience, but he currently earns $78,000 a year. "I'm here to explain it, not to defend it."

This is what I believe:

"Race mixing?" Don't ask me … even if I could find a mate who would not pollute my genes, I don't want to bring a child into this world … there are too many people who are "not smart" who have too much power, and some of them should never have been born. Social Darwinism says that this is because of Artificial Selection, i.e., modern medicine and social conscience about the welfare of the "inferior" members of the gene pool who cannot survive on their own. "I'm here to explain it, not to defend it."

That is all I have to say. -=DAH=- 1997-06-17
