Scans of Aunt GloriaI drove down last week in the Adm. Gracie to bring Brucilla, the color scanner, and the color printer to get digital copies of old family photographs. My cousin Lisa (Gloria's daughter) provided me with beaucoup photos of Aunt Gloria as a young woman, as well as photos of "Grams" (Octavia Williams, Gloria's mother) and her relations.
Gloria in 1932.
This 8x10 photograph had the words "Gloria - age 7 - To Aunt
Lotta - 1932" written in pencil on the back.
Gloria in 1946.
This 5x7 photograph had copious writing on the back in blue pencil:
"Oct. 26 - 1946 - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Queen Awlida
Metcaife and her attendants riding old Dobbin. Gloria Williams
3rd from right. (center)" This was obviously taken at
Howard University (there are
only black faces in the crowd), and I was amused by the photographer's
shadow in the picture.

This 8x10 photograph is undated, but the hair makes it pretty
obvious that it was taken before 1950.
