The entry for 20-Apr-91 was made using Onion, the DEC Rainbow
100B in this picture. FurFace
is asleep on top of the VR-241 monitor. Beside it is the HP InkJet
500 printer that replaced the DEC LA50 dot matrix printer (which
lives in the garage now).
Sleeping on top of the 'Bow ("Onion" was Jean's name for it) goes back to her days in Michigan, when the sound and movement of the LA50 print head always used to fascinate her. When I got the DeskJet, she was like a kitten again, and I sometimes caught her reaching inside of it with her paw, trying to grab the piece of paper that was being pulled from the input tray.
This is probably the first scan I had done, hence the simple name. I was using WordPerfect 5.0 on the 'Bow and it did not support graphics preview. Getting figure placement on a page was a real challange, and the results of printing on the InkJet were disappointing. I didn't get anything else scanned until after I upgraded to the LaserJet.
< I finally sold the the 'Bow in the fall of 1994 to a collector he called me a year later to say that he'd finally uncrated, assembled, and booted it, and wanted to know what some of the treasures on the 40Mb hard drive were and how to use them. -=DAH=- 03-Feb-96 >
